The Awaken Project is a Christ-centered, Gospel-focused organization that seeks to witness the irrefutable effects of the good news of Jesus in young adults’ lives. The Awaken Project provides a gap year program for students between the ages of 18 and 25. The program runs from early September through early May. The Awaken Project also hosts a podcast called The Awaken Project Podcast, which can be found on all major podcast listening platforms.

The cost of the program itself – which covers tuition, teachers’ compensation, and insurance – is $3,000, which can be fundraised or paid upfront, with all monies covering the program being sent to The Awaken Project. All students must be fully funded (have sent at least $3,000 to The Awaken Project) by the end of the calendar year in which they were accepted into the program. We recommend that students have approximately $2,000 budgeted for food throughout the year (purchasing and preparing their own meals is the student’s responsibility). Students do not need to have $2,000 fundraised for meals at the beginning of the gap year. Students may look for part-time work during the year to help offset the cost of the program.

In the fall, students attend week-long Bible-school classes every other week. There are seven classes in total throughout the fall. During the non-class weeks, students complete scripture memorization and book reviews for their academic projects. Students also assist with on-site projects (i.e. maintenance of Mount Carmel’s grounds, retreat hospitality, and other odd jobs) as needed. Students are also expected to lead Bible studies for the Lakeside Bible Initiative as the year progresses. On weekends, students assist with programming and hospitality needs for Mount Carmel’s fall retreats. Students will be given at least one day off per week (usually Saturday), but this date is subject to change based on the needs of Mount Carmel’s retreat programming. In the spring, students primarily travel to Quake Event’s weekend retreats to assist with production, leading workshops, and relational ministry with Quake students.

Preparing for Amazement Ministries Tue, 08 Jun 21 00:00:00 +0000 The mission of Preparing for Amazement Ministries is to revitalize and build the global church.

Empowering and equipping churches leads to create lasting and transformational health.

Patrick Lencioni, in his book, The Advantage, notes that ‘organizational health trumps everything.’ Not only have we found his argument to be true in the church to a high degree, but we have also found it to be true for the leaders of the church as well. Outside of the Gospel, the most important factor in the effectiveness of a church is the health of the church. Outside of the work of God, health is the most important factor in the effectiveness of pastors, staff and ministry leaders. Health trumps.

Our vision is to be the impetus in the revitalization and rebirth of the global church through training, resourcing and intentional learning experiences for Christians, empowering them to serve their communities around the world. We will empower and equip churches and leaders to create lasting and transformational health. Our ministry includes three primary elements:

  • Church & Leader Health: To provide support, education and resources for pastors and ministry leaders to experience transformative health for maximum Kingdom impact. We also help churches experience greater organizational health through education, training, consulting and other support.
  • Church Revitalization: To provide networks, resources and training to assist churches and their leaders in revitalization. We also connect churches and ministry leaders to one another, helping churches find health, hope and life in order to experience revitalization.
  • International Ministry: To provide training for churches, pastors and leaders in areas around the world where poverty prevents them from receiving quality training. We also seek to create international internships, missions and learning experiences for churches and their leaders to learn from others around the globe.

“Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” Habakkuk 1:5

The whole gospel for the whole world.

Core Values:

  • Building the Global Christian Church
  • Revitalizing Local Churches
  • Equipping Pastors and Leaders
  • Creating lasting and transformational health
Connections Stewardship Group Tue, 15 Sep 20 00:00:00 +0000

Connections Stewardship provides a variety of stewardship programs for congregations and nonprofit organizations. Senior Partner, Pastor John Cross (LCMC), has helped raise over $100,000,000 over the past 22 years. Primarily, Connections has specialized in Capital Campaigns, Debt Reduction Appeals (Mission Freedom), and Annual Giving Programs. More recently, we have reframed the Capital Campaign and have created the Mission Enhancement. For many decades, congregations have raised significant money by having a professionally-led, three-year campaign to raise funds for building projects.

With fewer Lutheran congregations taking on capital projects, Connections believes that almost every congregation would benefit greatly from conducting a Mission Enhancement Campaign. These appeals use the proven system and spiritual blessings of a traditional Capital Campaign - including the three-year giving period, the congregation-wide involvement, the high level of personal contact, the Scripturally-based, bold "ask" for larger gifts, the focus on mission, the spiritual growth, the Biblical emphasis, the professional on-site guidance, the growth of community enthusiasm that comes from taking on a significant challenge, the leadership development, the stewardship education, and all the rest.

Many churches have used the Mission Enhancement process to unite people around an exciting vision. Connections will help create and articulate that vision. Often, congregations have six or seven projects, program ideas, mission outreach possibilities, “wish-list” items, and/or benevolence efforts that they simply cannot afford to fund through the general budget.  With the Mission Enhancement Campaign, they are bundled together into a compelling case. Connections has learned that donors will give as generously to the Mission Enhancement as they normally give for a Capital Campaign. While the Enhancement works in any size of a congregation, it is particularly effective in small to mid-size churches.

If you think that your congregation might be interested in learning more, give LCMC Pastor John Cross a call at 503-708-3799, or send him an email at to find out more about this exciting ministry!  The first ten churches that respond to this LCMC website promotion will receive a 25% discount on their contract. When you do contact us, be sure to ask Pastor John about the highly innovative “Residential Campaign” process that will begin in 2021!! Also, be sure to check out our Facebook page, "Connections Stewardship.

Brotherhood Mutual Mon, 01 Oct 18 00:00:00 +0000 LCMC has arranged with Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company to be part of their ministry partner program. Brotherhood Mutual provides high-quality insurance protection and risk management services and works exclusively with churches and related ministries.

When churches practice good risk management, they provide a safer place for their members to worship, resulting in few losses. When that happens, Brotherhood Mutual gives our denominational office a Safe Ministry Reward payment. The ministry partner program does not affect insurance premiums, but it does help our denomination when member churches and ministries manage their risks well.

You can find more information about Brotherhood Mutual and the many risk management services that the company offers at

Sorensen Consulting Mon, 30 Apr 18 00:00:00 +0000 Are you in need of fundraising assistance?

In most organizations and with most leaders, like you, there are always more projects and priorities to be accomplished than funds available. More mission on the horizon if we just had the money. I would like to visit with you about your needs and how I could help you reach your goals.

For over 30 years I have been involved in fundraising for organizations large and small helping many achieve great results.

  • One LCMC church needed $5 million for two new buildings for their youth.  They started working with me and received pledges and gifts totaling $6.5 million including two $1 million gifts and a $500,000 gift.
  • Another organization was stuck at $8 million of the $16 million they needed for their $50 million+ project and now their new youth center is complete and faithfully serving their community.
  • A new LCMC church with under 200 attending on Sundays raised $400,000 for their much-needed projects.

With God’s help, an inspired goal, dedicated supporters and a good system great things can be accomplished!  Together we can secure your needed funds while creating the framework for sustainable generosity.

I would love to visit with you about the possibilities or pass this on if you know someone else who needs assistance.

Re-Missioned Wed, 02 Sep 15 00:00:00 +0000 Equipping Churches To Navigate Change

Re-Missioned, a division of One Heart Ministries, is a non-profit, faith-based organization serving the church throughout the United States and Canada. Our vision and passion is to help churches navigate through times of growth and change in a healthy and revitalizing way. We are excited to help churches “re-mission” themselves by moving from a membership focus to a discipleship focus.

In 1Cor. 9:22, the Apostle Paul expressed what God intended the heart of the Church to be: “When I am with those who are oppressed, I share their oppression so that I might bring them to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone so that I might bring them to Christ.” (NLT)

Our mission is to provide vibrant assistance through a combination of individualized services tailored to meet each unique situation. Our services include:

  • Church assessments
  • Development and implementation of a vision
  • Staff evaluation and needs assessment
  • Developing a team leadership approach
  • Effecting healthy change
    • Understanding how change works in a church setting
    • Managing change so change doesn’t manage you
  • Understanding conflict and responding in a life-giving way
CHURCHES CONNECT Mon, 01 Jun 15 00:00:00 +0000 Churches Connect is an online database which allows LCMC congregations to connect with one another for the purpose of asking questions, giving advice, sharing resources and collaborating on projects with one another.

Here’s how it works:

  1. The leader/pastor/member of a congregation goes to our website and signs up for Churches Connect.
  2. Some basic demographic and congregational information is entered into an online profile.  Some congregations will be listing the strengths they think might help other congregations; some congregations will be looking for resources for an area of ministry they want to develop.
  3. The database will match congregations who are looking for help or resources with other congregations that can offer experience and resources for that same area of ministry.

Church Planting

BlackberryBush Fri, 25 Oct 13 00:00:00 +0000

Why are our congregations in decline?
The last thing we want to do is to oversimplify our answer to this question.

Communication is Changing

The truth is, just as with print media, the music industry, telephones, or other communications enterprises, much of how we do business in the church (also a communication enterprise) is changing forever.

The Gospel never changes but the medium (scrolls, manuscripts, codices/books, proclama- tion, radio, TV, internet, smart phones) in which the Gospel is communicated is changing. It has changed before. It will change again in the future. Communication, for all of human history, has tended to improve; this is a good thing!

Along with having a message to communicate (the Gospel), we the church are also an interactive community. We are the Body of Christ.

Digital and Face-to-Face

Real, face-to-face communication will never be replaced by electronics. However, what we do when we are face-to-face is already changing for the better.

Light conversation can take place online or with a text message:
  • Where were we going to meet again?
  • Did you find that shirt you were looking for?
  • Are you in town?
  • Did you pick up the milk?
We can save face time for more valuable communication, such as:
  • Do you feel like you are in the right job?
  • Is your mother feeling better after her surgery?
  • How are things with your soul?
  • Can I pray with you?

BlackberryBush Embraces the Revolution

The BlackberryBush Course is perhaps one of the first resources for churches that recognize this revolution in communication and community. It is a blend of electronic communication and face time. The teaching content, which is less personal, is streamed in. If you have a tablet and a flat screen, you are set. However, the actual learning—the group interaction—is deeply personal and transformational.
This is how humans have always learned, by processing information together in a small group. Neither alone nor in a crowd is the best venue for learning. A table full of real people in real time will always be optimum for generating real, practical, spiritual wisdom; even 1,000 years from now.

Reinventing our Interactions

Church services from around 1500 (with the advent of the printing press) until now have not facilitated this very well. There is very little opportunity for adults to interact with the content of the Christian faith.
Sunday mornings tend to be one-way communication (like television). Small groups, after a while, tend to de-generate into ‘newsy’, chat sessions with little content or growth.

The BlackberryBush Course strikes a solid and healthy balance between the two, with high level instruction followed by double the instruction time in process-oriented personal interaction.
The church is not dying. However, the old way of communicating (the print-era church service) is having trouble attracting or holding attendance.

The old way of communicating isn’t effective anymore.

It’s time for a new way: BlackberryBush

LCMC Missions Forum Fri, 07 Jun 13 00:00:00 +0000 A Google-Group Venue for Sharing Experiences, Ideas, and Needs

Sponsored by the Augustana District Board of World Missions

We invite all people who are passionate about missions to join this discussion group. It gives us an opportunity to network together in several areas related to our mission to serve Christ.

First, this discussion group will offer a gathering place where prayers can be requested and offered. While we each belong to our individual congregations, we are also all brothers and sisters in Christ, and we should share in one another’s burdens and blessings. God’s Word says in Timothy 2:1 (TNIV) “I urge then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for everyone.”
Next, this discussion group will offer a gathering place that can be used as a clearing house for information and ideas related to mission work. You can let many others learn about your mission experiences by sharing your post with this discussion group. Jesus said in John 14:12 (TNIV) “Truly I tell you, all who have faith in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these.” During Jesus time the apostles were limited to sharing on an individual scale to one person or small groups. Today, we have been given the gift of the power of the internet. It allows us to network over long distances with others anywhere in the world. By using this gift for the benefit of promoting God’s mission work, perhaps we can do “even greater things” than the apostles were able to do during the time of Christ.

In addition, this discussion group can be a gathering place for Christian fellowship with pleasant and informative conversation between God’s people who have a common interest in helping our neighbor both physically and spiritually. Fellowship is an important part of keeping our Christian faith strong and alive. In Acts 2:42 (TNIV) it says the early Christian community “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.”

Our mission field can be local, national, or international. If your congregation has experienced success with a local youth outing, or neighborhood outreach program, or a mission trip, maybe you can share that experience so others can learn how to do something similar at their congregation.

We ask that you share this invitation to join the “LCMC Missions Forum” with the members of your congregation. If someone would be interested in joining this group, or has any questions, they can contact Mark Richardson or Jim Dix.  To receive an e-mail to join the discussion, just send a request to the moderator, Jim Dix at We hope to hear from you soon.

Royal Family KIDS Thu, 02 May 13 00:00:00 +0000 More than 3.5 million cases of child abuse, abandonment and neglect are reported every year.  408,425  children now live in foster care in the United States. 128,000 of these children are between the ages of 6 and 12. By the time an abused, abandoned or neglected child is rescued by Social Services and placed in the foster care system, the damage has already been done – damage that can last a lifetime.  Foster children are the most at-risk children within the United States. But you and I know the impact of compassion and commitment in the life of a child…
Since 1985, Royal Family KIDS has lifted children from the deepest pits of despair and given them hope toward a better tomorrow and brighter future.  We do this through our Camp, Club and Mentor programs.  Royal Family KIDS Camp is the nation’s leading camp program for abused, abandoned and neglected children ages 6-12.  Royal Family KIDS Camp is built around a working relationship between Royal Family KIDS, social services and our sponsoring camp churches, but it is entirely locally volunteer-driven.

At Camp…

One counselor for every two children provides for lots of individual attention from a trustworthy adult.
All the games, crafts and activities are designed to be fun and ensure each child succeeds – self-esteem issues loom large for children of abuse, but at camp, everyone is a winner!

We share the message that God loves these children and they are valuable.  This is great news for children who feel that nobody loves them.

We are a family at camp.  There is even an Aunt, an Uncle, and a camp Grandma and Grandpa whose important role is to tell stories, deliver snacks and hugs, give encouragement – just like a “real” family!
Some of our kids have never had a birthday party – but at Everybody’s Birthday Party one night at camp, every child is presented with cake, presents and a real celebration!

The best part? Life-long Memories!

Special bonds are established during the week of Royal Family KIDS Camp. After camp is over, that bond is carried over into a one on one mentoring relationship through our Club & Mentors Program. Participating campers are matched with trained mentors from the Royal Family KIDS Camp team. Mentors and their mentees spend four hours together each month doing fun activities and building healthy adult-to-child relationships. This relationship is built upon:
  • Trust – the camper and mentor have already met and established a level a trust from their five days at camp together
  • Safety – every mentor is interviewed, trained, and background checked
  • Commitment – each mentor, mentee and caregiver commit to nine months of Club and one on one mentoring time
Roughly 55% of foster children in the US have had three or more placements. 33% of foster children change elementary schools five or more times, losing relationships and falling behind educationally.*
Therefore, having a consistent mentor is VITAL.

Throughout the school year campers and their mentors attend a once a month Club meeting. Club is a place where a camper can reconnect with many of the participating staff members from Camp as well as build lasting friendships with the other campers who are being mentored.

At camp, relationships and trust are established and those bonds carry over into a mentoring relationship.  This model- Camps*Clubs*Mentors has had a powerful impact on the children: over 90% of our Club kids are still meeting with their mentors the last day of club each year!

Each retreat is led by two licensed Christian counselors—male and female—and our retreat chaplain.  Retreats are held at Standing Stones Retreat Center located 90 minutes NW of Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport.
We request $3500 per couple for accommodations, meals, and counseling fees.  Sometimes scholarship assistance is available.  We request $2500 for a single person.  Pastors and spouses are strongly encouraged to come together.

logo“Church” literally means “called out ones” in the Biblical Greek. Ordinary people “called out” by Jesus to transform the world… this is real church.  Church is not a place, organization or institution.  Church is not an end in itself; rather, you and I and all other believers in Jesus are the church—the Lord’s instrument to transform the world. Therefore, helping believers to discern the Lord’s call and live worthy of His call should be a primary objective of every church gathering. This objective is possible whether a gathering of believers is very large or very small. Bringing Jesus’ loving and saving rule, reign and resurrection power to bear on people, problems and places is the call of every Christian. What is the Lord calling you to do? What is your unique part? Where is your mission field and how are you bringing Jesus’ rule and reign to this mission field? How is your church gathering intentionally mobilizing all people towards these kingdom priorities?

Our Objectives & Values:
  • We teach ordinary people how to seek, discover and “incorporate” God’s call into all of life. Our hope is that all Christians of any age will live worthy of Jesus and His call.
  • We train leaders to mobilize ordinary people called by Jesus.
  • We encourage leaders to discern their call within their call to increase their effectiveness as kingdom leaders.
  • We renew “Christian churches”… ordinary people “anointed” and empowered with the Holy Spirit in order to be “called out” by Jesus to transform the world.
  • We encourage “living worthy of Christ’s call” as an essential dimension of a multifaceted approach for developing fruitful disciples of Jesus.
  • We teach events, provide resources, and encourage individuals and groups with these objectives.

What We Do:
  • Ordinary People Call Seminars combine scriptural teaching, prayerful reflection, listening prayer and conversation, assisting people to seek, discover and “incorporate” God’s call into their unique mission field of life… family, work, community, world, and the church gathering. Most basic is the call to know, follow and uniquely serve Jesus… 24/7.
  • Teaching Events (seminars, retreats, workshops) on these topics: God’s call, spiritual gifts, life stewardship, discipleship, listening prayer, call mobilization training, fear, and “church” (the called out ones). These scriptural events are taught by highly experienced and knowledgeable teachers.
  • Resources (publications and downloadable resources for all ages… on these topics): God’s call, spiritual gifts, life stewardship, discipleship, and “church” (the called out ones) with more coming including video!
  • Free Downloadable Resources: We offer free downloadable resources for individual use including a spiritual gifts identification inventory and an easy-to-use talent and skills profile (an effective replacement for time and talent sheets). In addition, the copying rights for these downloadable resources may be purchased for a very modest fee.
  • Discipleship Development Strategy & Discernment Conversations for individuals, leaders, churches and other organizations
Experiential Learning for Pastors Wed, 13 Jun 12 00:00:00 +0000 Light of
Christ (LOC) Lutheran Church, in Chandler, Arizona.

There is no cost except for your lodging (even that is free if you stay with an LOC family)

What will not happen:
  • Any focus on growing your church.  First off, it's God's Church.  Second, God wants to simply grow our hearts.  He will take care of the size of His congregation.
  • Giving you a program.  The process is what matters.  A friend of mine was asked what program they use in their church.  He simply said, "The pray-without-ceasing program."  The Lord will work out the specifics in your context.  How can we possibly know what He wants to do in His church that you're serving?
  • Anger and excuses.  What will happen instead is laughter, encouragement, hope, joy and a lot of power!!
  • Pressure.  Since we're not selling anything, asking for anything, or glorifying ourselves.

I would like to invite you to visit us in Chandler, Arizona.  I have no interest in speaking at a conference, as I feel the teacher/student relationship when it comes to the Holy Spirit is not particularly helpful.  We are all learners.  Part of my problem was/is the pride that says I'm a teacher.  I'm not.  You might learn something from me, but I guarantee you I will learn something from you.  I know the Lord will meet us where we are and encourage us all to take the next step with Him, no matter our context.

What will we do?
  • Talk about the goodness of God and how blessed we are to have been chosen to serve as pastors in His church.
  • Hear stories from leaders who needed the pastor to believe God would use them, encourage them in ministry, and mostly get out of their (and the Lord's) way!
  • Discuss the question: "What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?"  As the Holy Spirit unpacks that for us, and challenges us to take the next step in discipleship, the Spirit will also give us the wisdom and peace to know that our example is the most important lesson we will ever teach our congregation about discipleship.
  • Discuss how to develop unique ministry partnerships in our own communities as we learn how those partnerships were nurtured and developed at Light of Christ.
  • Have time growing in our personal walk with the Father, as we give Him back His church.
  • Meet some really neat people!

Where the Spirit is, there is freedom.  My primary problem was that I was trained to be the micromanager of a church.  The fact is, God will do the micromanaging!  Its His Church anyway.  What I needed to accept was the freedom Jesus died to give me.  If you would like to learn this, or perhaps relearn it, this might be the week for you.

Tentative Schedule:  Tuesday morning through Sunday afternoon.

God has completely transformed my life and the ministry at Light of Christ.  He gets all the glory.  How did all of this happen?  It started with coming to the end of myself.  I was completely burned out and ready to leave the ordained ministry 12 years ago.  I was deep in self-pity, exhaustion, self-hatred and despair.  At my darkest moment the Lord simply whispered to my heart, "Moe, will you give me back my church?"  That was the beginning.

And now, 12 years later?  Unbelievable transformation!

Every week I have the privilege of talking with young people who have unexpected pregnancies, encouraging them with God's love and strength.  I get to celebrate the goodness of God with the most incredible people you will ever meet ... and they happen to live in a nursing home!  We sing songs, praise God, laugh and love each Thursday morning!  I have the wonder of getting to meet with 3 different men's bible study groups ... without having to prepare a thing!  The Lord has given me more time to spend with my family than ever before.  I am watching God completely transform this congregation into disciples who serve.  We just had an 80+ year old woman out of the Jewish faith accept Jesus into her heart two months ago ... and she now has the youngest spirit in the Church!!  We have the most low-maintenance group of leaders you could ever hope to have.  God takes care of most conflict before I know its happening.  I have only two meetings a month: church board and staff.  We have more ministry partnerships than I ever imagined could be.  And all of this without us even having a building!

Are you at the end of yourself?  If so, the Lord is ready to bring you into a brand new life of joy, service, love and faith.  I believe He is ready to give you an entirely new vision (or at least a vision I had never seen before) of what pastoral ministry can look like.  Instead of thinking about it, or even talking about it, please come and experience what it looks like in our setting!

As pastors we struggle with many of the same things.  We will encourage each other, as the Father desires.  We will spend a lot of time just being brothers and sisters in Christ.  We will pray for the Father to set us free from what we think people want us to be, so that we can rest in who He has created us to be!  We will ask God to remove our plans for our ministries, and gently reveal to us His plans for His ministries.

I would love to have a group of 4-5 pastors come at a time so we can learn from each other.  God will speak through each of us to each of us!  We have never done anything like this before, but God has put it on my heart that we need to help, encourage, and love one another.  There is no charge except getting yourself here.  Why would there be?  Freely we have received, freely we give.

Please call me at 480-899-1400 if you are interested in being part of the first group.  Once we have 4-5 who are interested we'll put the calendar together.

Thank you and may God richly bless you with His power, peace, love, joy and hope.  You are beautiful to Him.  Don't quit.  Don't give up.  He is refining you, which is never fun.  But if we will stay faithful and open to the Spirit's leading, just like the first disciples, the Lord will grow in us more faith, hope, love, gentleness, power and self-control than we can imagine.

Your brother on the Journey,

Moe Redding

Consulting Services

Helping people come to an understanding of their role as God's stewards is an intentional process. Giving is not something we convince people to do. It is something they do in response to God's love.
