LCMC Missions Forum

A Google-Group Venue for Sharing Experiences, Ideas, and Needs

Sponsored by the Augustana District Board of World Missions

We invite all people who are passionate about missions to join this discussion group. It gives us an opportunity to network together in several areas related to our mission to serve Christ.

First, this discussion group will offer a gathering place where prayers can be requested and offered. While we each belong to our individual congregations, we are also all brothers and sisters in Christ, and we should share in one another’s burdens and blessings. God’s Word says in Timothy 2:1 (TNIV) “I urge then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for everyone.”
Next, this discussion group will offer a gathering place that can be used as a clearing house for information and ideas related to mission work. You can let many others learn about your mission experiences by sharing your post with this discussion group. Jesus said in John 14:12 (TNIV) “Truly I tell you, all who have faith in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these.” During Jesus time the apostles were limited to sharing on an individual scale to one person or small groups. Today, we have been given the gift of the power of the internet. It allows us to network over long distances with others anywhere in the world. By using this gift for the benefit of promoting God’s mission work, perhaps we can do “even greater things” than the apostles were able to do during the time of Christ.

In addition, this discussion group can be a gathering place for Christian fellowship with pleasant and informative conversation between God’s people who have a common interest in helping our neighbor both physically and spiritually. Fellowship is an important part of keeping our Christian faith strong and alive. In Acts 2:42 (TNIV) it says the early Christian community “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.”

Our mission field can be local, national, or international. If your congregation has experienced success with a local youth outing, or neighborhood outreach program, or a mission trip, maybe you can share that experience so others can learn how to do something similar at their congregation.

We ask that you share this invitation to join the “LCMC Missions Forum” with the members of your congregation. If someone would be interested in joining this group, or has any questions, they can contact Mark Richardson or Jim Dix.  To receive an e-mail to join the discussion, just send a request to the moderator, Jim Dix at We hope to hear from you soon.

Yours in Christ,

  • Dear Friends in Christ, Dave Brauhn, Lutheran Disaster Assistance Director here. I am in Dearborn, Michigan right now attending the 2013 LCMC National Assembly. There are about 800 LCMC family members here with me....including our forum moderator , Jim Dix. I was pleased to finally meet Jim in person . We are having an inspiring time on the Grace of Giving...this years theme...wonderful speakers!! I want to give you an update on LDA/Lutheran Disaster Assistance. We have received 3 formal applications for assistance so far.... *** tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma (approved and $ 49,000 designated funds sent) ***fires in the Black forest area of Colorado ( approved and $2,100 designated funds sent) ***floods in Colorado( in process of approval and currently collecting funds for this disaster) LDA has sent out 600 emails to LCMC pastors asking if they would consider taking up an offering for the Colorado flood victims and sending it to LDA . I have personally talked to the LCMC pastors whose church is in in the flood disaster area ( they are here at the Dearborn Assembly) and there is great need. Pastor Eric told me in their church alone there are 30 families whose trailer park homes were washed away and those families are home less with no insurance . They will need all the financial assistance we can muster. We are promoting awareness of LDA here at the Assembly. We have LDA information trifolds in all 800 of the registration bags.... a manned Exhibit table to pass out info.... and an hour Breakout session to talk about LDA with Q and A .......... and just this afternoon Mark Vandertieg invited Pastor Perry Fruhling, senior pastor at St Mark's Church , LDA's administering church to the podium to give a short message about LCMC's Lutheran Disaster Assistance. We have talked to many of the Assembly attendees and had a great response of interest. No $ for Colorado has arrived yet but we need to give pastors a few weeks to conduct their Colorado flood offerings. I know many of you on this forum responded to the call for funds for the Moore Oklahoma disaster...Thank you so much and may God bless you !!! I am asking if you would consider taking a collection for the Colorado flood victims. I hope we don't have any more disasters much destruction and homes /lives forever changed . BTW... the 2014 LCMC National Assembly location was announced today ...Des Moines , Iowa!! On Christ, the solid Rock, Dave Brauhn LDA Director 319-849-0013
