Job Description – Director of Music and Fine Arts
To better direct and focus peoples’ hearts and minds on the worship of God during corporate worship, the Director of Music and Fine Arts encourages musical directors, accompanists, singers and technical support workers to focus their talents on Christ while pointing others to Him.
As Director of Music . . .
He or she should have a comfort and familiarity with both Modern Praise and Traditional worship music.
The Director of Music will ordinarily select or approve the selections of music for all worship services.
Will have primary responsibility to direct and coordinate the Music Leadership Team while planning the music for worship services with the aid of other directors and accompanists. Will meet together with these leaders for overall planning and scheduling 3 to 4 times per year.
For the Saturday evening worship service and the Sunday Blended worship service, the Director of Music will function as the worship leader in the capacity of vocalist or instrumentalist (or both), on most occasions. An Assistant Worship Leader should be scheduled in this capacity monthly, or when the Director of Music is not available. Worship Leaders will coordinate with all vocalists and instrumentalists to prepare for rehearsals and worship services.
All scheduling of vocalists, instrumentalists and Assistant Worship Leaders will be done by the Director of Music.
The Director of Music will on occasion assemble choirs or ensembles for special services, and may assist in providing for the music needs for festival services, funerals and community outreach events as the Lead Pastor directs.
As Director of Fine Arts . . .
Will on occasion provide original or purchased dramas for worship as the Lead Pastor directs. Will recruit actors, prepare scripts, schedule rehearsals and direct (or delegate directing) of dramas. The person directing must be clear in communicating with all technical support workers as to what is needed for each production.
Will research worship video or DVD dramas to enhance worship services as the Lead Pastor directs.
